Tillman
Everyone says Tillman is a hero. He gave up millions in the NFL to serve his
country in the armed forces. And he died.
But there is another view. Perhaps we got it from watching Taxi Driver many times. Maybe Tillman's motives weren't quite as pure as we suspect. We suspect that, indeed, it was not about the money. But there is one thing an NFL player could get more of by serving in Special Forces in Afghanistan: asskicking. Maybe he went to the one place where he could kick people's asses more and harder than in the NFL. There's no "roughing the passer" in Tora Bora, is there?
This could be bullshit, of course, but it's the sort of thing that suggests maybe they could tone down the sentimental "hero" crap, just a bit. Because it would be pretty awful to praise as a patriot a guy who might really have been a psycho.
