Look here for info on the software used to run this site. Initial release won't happen until the software has proven stable and all production-time kinks are worked out. The software will most likely be OSS.

Oblique, Obtuse
Oblique, Obtuse

We got something like Eno's Oblique Strategies only we call it "Obtuse Tactics". It's kind of a line-for-line homage/parody/ripoff/joke/ha-ha-only-serious. Its output should be visible at the bottom of the page.

It's a Perl script you can download here.

[Update: not on the bottom of the page. Some of it is at the top of pages ending in a slash. That might change, or might not.... Tue May 23 00:53:33 EDT 2006]

WFMU Marathon Time
WFMU Marathon Time Keep real radio alive. Commercial free. DJs playing you stuff they like. No mandatory playlists. No payola. No media oligopoly. Internet streaming. Downloads of interesting tracks. Streaming from the archives. Insane, criminal, politically-motivated government censorship. Don't let freedom die. Pledge now. Eclectic, freeform, essential.

google static
google static we think we've noticed recently that google has recently taken some account of some measure of noise in the text of a site, and presuming link farms, whacks the rank down.

if you know what this site's about, you won't be surprised if it doesn't stop us from making some noise.

Skipping MP3s on KDE
Skipping MP3s on KDE On KDE, we've had a problem with some mp3 files skipping. This happens with our favorite radio station. Can't have that. Oddly, the solution appears to be to go to the Sound System control panel and turn off Skip Prevention via the checkbox marked "Run with the highest priority (realtime priority)". This is on FreeBSD 5.2.

Of course that doesn't really work. Turning off full duplex does the trick. It seems to like realtime priority with a big buffer. I'll try turning the buffer down some other day.
